Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) is a solitary dwarf palm 3-3.5m tall with a hugely swollen trunk up to 60cm in diameter. Trunks are rounded in young specimens and flatten out a little when it gets older. It has upwardly arching feather leaves (pinnate) on top of a smooth green crown shaft. Leaves grow up to 3m in length. Bottle Palms originate in Round Island but is almost extinct in native habitat. It is however widely cultivated for its unique beauty all around the world.

Lady Palms - Rhaphis Excelsa, are very elegant, graceful multi stemmed palms, which grow to 3-4m tall. They have deep green, glossy leaves. Saltbush is now popular as an Australian Bush food with the dried leaves offering a salty substitute! They are great to sprinkle over breads, used in meals such as pasta or even in dukkah. Leaves can also be used as bed or wrap for grilled meat or vegetables. The foliage does make a lovely hedge or you can do what I have done and add it to my herb garden ( keep it trimmed!)

Giant Bird of Paradise - Strelitzia nicolai - Incredibly fast growing in the right position, perfect for a quick screen! Beautiful plant from Natal, South Africa. Tall, striking foliage plant growing up to 6m high and 4m wide. It is evergreen, with multiple stems that form a dense clump. Very hardy with large dramatic leaves for a true tropical effect. Will grow as far south as Melbourne if it is provided a frost-free position. Huge flowers resemble birds’ heads and can be used in floral arrangements. Flowers appear within a year in the right conditions. Excellent indoor and potted plant, even in exposed positions, but provide some shelter from strong winds. Dwarf Date Palm Tree - Phoenix roebelenii. The Dwarf Date Palm is a beautiful, solitary palm which grows to around 3m tall. The old leaves form a Hula skirt around the trunk. Flowers are cream, and are followed by egg shaped, black, edible fruit.

Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) is a cold hardy ginger growing as far south as Melbourne, it has flowers that resemble sea shells which are white with pink tips.
An absolutely stunning tree, and one of our own! The Native Frangipani is native to most of the East Coast of Australia, from Sydney to Cape York, and also PNG. Depending on where this tree grows, it usually grows to around 10m in warm/tropical areas of the country, smaller in cooler areas. Foliage is beautiful, glossy deep green up to 15cm long, and flowers are formed in spring. The whole canopy of the tree is covered in sweetly fragrant and yellowy cream flowers which age to a deep orange, and are borne throughout spring & early summer. Plants for sale: 30cm tall

Old Mans Beard - Spanish Moss - Tillandsia Usneoides - Super interesting air plant to add to your garden! Native to the southeastern United States, Bahamas and Central and South America, it is now well naturalised in Queensland and French Polynesia. This tiny angiosperm (or flowering plant) is in fact an epiphyte and a bromeliad which grows on hanging branches in sun to partial shade.
