The Dwarf Date Palm (Phoenix roebelenii) is a dwarf palm suited so small gardens. It is a solitary, very elegant palm, which grows to around 3m tall. This palm is not self cleaning and the leaves will form a skirt around the trunk if not removed.
Flowers on the Dwarf Date Palm are cream, and are followed by edible fruit. Dwarf Date Palm fruit is black and egg-shaped. Propagation is from seed.
Phoenix roebelenii is best grown in a sunny to part shaded position. As with most palms, it thrives in a well draining, rich soil. Mulch heavily. Dwarf Date Palms are frost hardy to around -5 and are suited to almost all parts of Australia. It handles coastal conditions well. It is drought hardy and very low maintenance once it has established itself.
This Palm can be grown in pots and as indoor plant also.
